How many times do you wake up in the morning and plan on getting loads done? But at the end of the day when it’s all over, the only thing you’ve managed to accomplish is binge-watching a season of ‘Friends’ on Netflix?
If this sounds like you then check out these 5 actionable steps you can follow to supercharge your day!
Step 1: Have a Plan
Sure, you might have an idea or to do list of all the things you want to get done today. But do you have a plan? If you’ve got 10 things on your to-do list, prioritize the most important ones and get them out of the way first! So even if you don’t quite make it the whole way through your list, you know you’ve had a good handle on the day!
Step 2: Set Time Limits
Have you ever put off a task because the time it takes to complete it is going to be very long? Why not set a time limit? For example, if you’ve got to go to the gym and you really can’t bring yourself to go, just tell yourself. I’m only going to spend 45 minutes there. You’ll notice when you have a deadline you become a little bit more productive!
Step 3: Just Get Started
And on that subject half the battle is just getting started. Whatever it is, just take the first step. If you want to finish a book, tell yourself “I’ll just read the first page.” if you need to eat healthier just say “I’m only going to eat one healthy meal” You’ll notice that the more you do this the more you’re going to want to keep doing it!
Step 4: Give Yourself a Little Treat
If you’re really struggling to get something done. Why not tell yourself you’ll be allowed a little treat if you do it. When I first started going to the gym I really used to struggle to go every day. So I started telling myself that I’ll have a protein bar every time I went. No, I go regularly! Sometimes you just need that little bit of extrinsic motivation to get you going!
Step 5: See the End Result
“Faith is to believe what you do not see; the reward of this faith is to see what you believe.” – Saint Augustine
If you don’t allow yourself to see the reward of your labor beforehand you’re going to be lacking some serious motivation to get it done. Take a few minutes every so often to really see yourself at your end goal, and imagine how good you’re going to feel when you get there!
