Top career and life coach Maxine Nwaneri has gone through a lot of trials and tribulations through her life. But in the face of all that, she has built an outstanding international career since acquiring her MBA from Cambridge University. She was selected as one of the Top 30 under the age of 40 while she worked in the tech financing field, and as an entrepreneur, her company, The Future Is Greater has positively impacted clients from literally all over the world and enabled her to donate over $100,000 to widows, orphans, and others in need.

She’s compassionate, because she understands what struggle looks like. In her late teens, she made a string of bad decisions. She dropped out of school, dated the wrong guy, hung around the wrong crowds, got involved with drugs and even wound up homeless at one point.

In spite of those experiences, she’s been able to turn these awful experiences around into fuel for success based around the following principles.

Know Your Purpose

In July 2019, Maxine nearly had a fatal childbirth experience. Even though the delivery of her son was a success, the delivery of the placenta wasn’t. This emergency led to 10 healthcare professionals aiding and assisting her in panic. The first hour of her son’s life was chaotic to say the least.

They ended up saving her life, but after a little over a week of getting home, she woke up in a pool of blood. Her husband was terrified for her, and they called for an ambulance to take Maxine to a hospital — because she was slowly dying.

She says the only reason she didn’t die that day is because of her children. As she felt her life slipping away, looking at her kids asleep in the next room, she knew she had to stay alive for them. She held on until the ambulance came and took her to the hospital where they performed surgery.

There’s nothing like purpose that can help you overcome anything — even death. Knowing your purpose and why will give you the power to overcome what’s in front of you. This doesn’t mean just surviving what’s in front of you. This means to thrive and surpass your obstacles  — they’re not dead ends.

Don’t Fight For Your Limitations

One of Maxine’s favorite quotes is: “If you fight for your limitations, you get to keep them.” Jim Kwik, the founder of Kwik Learning and author of the NYT Bestselling book Limitless: Upgrade Your Brain, Learn Anything Faster, and Unlock Your Exceptional Life, said that, and it’s true — in life you’ll have many chances to keep your limitations — the excuses that hold you back.

How long have your limitations been holding you back? What has that cost you?

You have to remember that the brain can work in your favor. Whatever you believe, your mind will naturally reinforce with evidence. This applies with good habits as well. This phenomenon is called the “act as if principle.” Acting as if you have the habits you want can help you work through unhealthy habits and patterns. Acting as if is simply behaving, thinking and feeling as if you already have or are the person you want to be. The opposite is also true.

Many people are aware of the placebo effect and understand how powerful that can be. However, what most people don’t know about is the no-cebo effect. The no-cebo effect is the opposite of the placebo. You might not know what the consequence is of a negative thought. However, a negative thought is equally as powerful as a positive thought in controlling your health but in the opposite direction. Negative thinking can cause illness just from thought.

Maxine recommends that you choose your thoughts carefully and understand that you have power over them.

Think At a Higher Level

The best way to describe this is when Joe Rogan talks about being the hero of your own movie. He states “if you were the hero in your own movie right now, what would that person do?” This forces you to think of life differently. There’s people in the world that have an alter ego. Even Beyonce has Sasha Fierce. What is the benefit of an alter ego?

Let’s say you’re a 6-figure entrepreneur that’s looking to get into the 7-figure realm but haven’t been able to do it. We’ve all heard of the saying that what got you to 6-figures won’t get you to 7. So what would happen if you started asking yourself; what would a 7-figure me do in this situation?

This higher level of questioning and thinking will always force you out of your natural comfort zone and start thinking at a higher level. This will help you make better decisions that don’t just involve your career, but your life at home, your internal confidence and more.

How You Can Really Hit the Jackpot

The most important part about thriving in life is the fact that you need to have a vision that is unparalleled to your fears. Your vision must be bigger than what you’re afraid of — and you need to be fiercely committed to that vision to the point that it exceeds far above the circumstances that you are in.

When you’re surrounded by things that are overwhelming, it’s easier to lower your expectations of life to just “survive.” However, when Maxine was going through her near-death experience, what kept her alive wasn’t just the need to survive for her kids to just feed them.

Her vision of what her life could be with her kids is what made her hold on and thrive afterwards. She was thinking about what she wanted to teach her kids, what she wanted to do with them and how her life would look like with them.

“I want my troubles to pay me,” Maxine says. “I don’t want to go through pain for pain’s sake. I want something for it in return.”

You’re either going to benefit from the pain you experience — or you’re going to stay in a painful state. So if you really want to hit the jackpot, your vision needs to be much bigger than what you’re running from. Remember, if anything was possible, what would you create? The reality is, at this moment — you have the ability to create that life. The future is greater.
